New Torx Plus® Maxx Drive System From Acument®
Tightens Bolts To The Limits Of Their Strength

Maximum Torque In Stud/Stem Applications

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (May 8, 2008) – The new Torx Plus® Maxx High Strength Drive System from Acument North America tightens bolts to the limits of their strength by concentrating the highest available levels of torque directly to studs, ball studs and threaded fasteners.

A maximum-strength version of the popular Torx Plus® drive system, Torx Plus Maxx studs feature reengineered drive lobes that extend into the threaded portion of the fastener point.

This full engagement between the drive socket and the assembly tool spreads surface contact, establishing a fastening angle that enables Torx Plus Maxx stems to achieve up to 95 percent of blind hole torque before failure, an increase of more than 80 percent over present systems. Seating torques up to 70 percent of blind hole torque are standard, versus top torque of 50 to 60 percent on current stud drives.

Torx Plus® Maxx drive system also has the capability to hold threaded parts, studs and ball studs stationery while a nut is torqued to its proper setting. A single operator, for example, can hold a blind bolt in place and tighten a nut to any desired torque value.

“Torx Plus Maxx drive system satisfies customer requirements for a compact drive system that delivers maximum torque in heavy-duty stud/stem applications,” said Martin Schnurr, vice president and general manager of Acument North America. “It extends tool life, increases productivity, and consistently delivers robust, durable joints that allow quick removal of fasteners during maintenance.”

Applications for the new drive system include engine mounts, truck trailers, agricultural equipment, automotive drive trains, steering and suspension systems, and other large components where powerful torque is needed on stud/stem products, or from the nut end of a faster.

Torx Plus Maxx drive system is the third generation of the Torx® drive system, patented in 1971 and enhanced in 1992 with the introduction of Torx Plus drive system and its proprietary elliptical drive lobes. During the past 38 years almost eight billion Torx and Torx Plus drive systems in hundreds of sizes and shapes have been sold into industrial, automotive, electronic, and aerospace markets. More than 90 licensed manufacturers worldwide also produce and market Torx and Torx Plus screws and bolts.
